The International Wing Chun Martial Art Association has two different Certification Programs that it makes available to its members.

Wing Chun Training Program
This is a distance learning program designed to aid those with a desire to learn Wing Chun who do not otherwise have access to a school or instructor in their area. It is also an opportunity for students of Wing Chun to become certified and recognized in accordance with the IWCMAA Wing Chun Ranking System, which is a key first step for those that with to become IWCMAA certified Wing Chun Instructors.

IWCMAA Certified Wing Chun Instructor Training Program
Instructor Certification through the International Wing Chun Martial Art Association is available to both existing Wing Chun Instructors and individuals interested in becoming Wing Chun Instructors. Each level of Certification covers specific areas of the Wing Chun system on which the applicant must pass certification examinations.

Wing Chun Training Program

   Members who wish to take advantage of the IWCMAA Wing Chun Training Program should complete a Training Program Application and submit that with the $35 Registration Fee to the IWCMAA Headquarters in Wyoming, MI.

   You may also choose to pay the Registration Fee using Paypal, however you must still send in your completed registration form.

How the Distance Program Works

  1. Purchase and study the appropriate IWCMAA materials listed for the level you are currently working on certification for. Required materials are available through either our online store, or in our Member's Section at a discounted price.
 
2. After studying and practicing the materials, make a video tape or DVD of you performing the required materials, and mail it along with the testing fee to Master Chan. If you have questions on what to include in the video, please contact Master Chan.
 


3. Master Chan will review and score your performance and skills demonstrated in the video. Each level has a minimum that you must score in order to receive certification. Upon becoming Certified, you will have a IWCMAA Certificate of Skill sent to you, along with the corresponding level sash.

Beginner Level
Sil Lim Tau - Yellow Sash Level

  1. Study and learn the Sil Lim Tau form and related materials from the IWCMAA Sil Lim Tau Instructional DVD.*
 
2. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Sil Lim Tau form and related materials along with a $45 testing fee.
 
3. Master Chan will review the video and give his recommendations. For a Sil Lim Tau Level Certificate to be issued, you must have a test score of 75% or higher.

 

Intermediate Level I
Chum Kiu - Orange Sash Level

  1. Study and learn the Chum Kiu form and related materials from the IWCMAA Chum Kiu Instructional DVD.*
 
2. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Chum Kiu form and related materials along with a $45 testing fee.
 
3. Master Chan will review the video and give his recommendations. For a Chum Kiu Level Certificate to be issued, you must have a test score of 75% or higher.

 

Intermediate Level II
Mok Jong Level 1- Green Sash Level

  1. Study and learn the Mok Jong form Sections 1-3 and related materials from the IWCMAA Wooden Dummy Instructional DVD.* At this level of your training, you will require access to a Wing Chun Wooden Dummy.
 
2. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Mok Jong form Sections 1-3 and related materials along with a $55 testing fee.
 
3. Master Chan will review the video and give his recommendations. For a Mok Jong Level I Certificate to be issued, you must have a test score of 75% or higher.

 

Intermediate Level III
Mok Jong Level 2- Blue Sash Level

  1. Study and learn the Mok Jong form Sections 4-7 and related materials from the IWCMAA Wooden Dummy Instructional DVD.*
 
2. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Mok Jong form Sections 4-7 and related materials along with a $55 testing fee.
 
3. Master Chan will review the video and give his recommendations. For a Mok Jong Level I Certificate to be issued, you must have a test score of 80% or higher.

 

Advanced Level I
Lok Dim Boon Gwan - Brown Sash

  1. Study and learn the Lok Dim Boon Gwan form and related materials from the IWCMAA Lok Dim Boon Gwan Instructional DVD.* At this level of your training, you will require a Wing Chun Pole.
 
2. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Lok Dim Boon Gwan form and related materials along with a $65 testing fee.
 
3. Master Chan will review the video and give his recommendations. For a Lok Dim Boon Gwan Level Certificate to be issued, you must have a test score of 80% or higher.

 

Advanced Level II
Biu Gee - Black Sash Level

  1. Study and learn the Biu Gee form and related materials from the IWCMAA Biu Gee Instructional DVD.*
 
2. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Biu Gee form and related materials along with a $65 testing fee.
 
3. Master Chan will review the video and give his recommendations. For a Biu Gee Level Certificate to be issued, you must have a test score of 80% or higher.

 

Advanced Level III
Bak Jom Dao - Red Sash Level

  1. Study and learn the Bak Jom Dao form and related materials from the IWCMAA Bak Jom Dao Instructional DVD.* At this level of your training, you will require a pair of Wing Chun Butterfly Knives.
 
2. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Bak Jom Dao form and related materials along with a $65 testing fee.
 
3. Master Chan will review the video and give his recommendations. For a Bak Jom Dao Level Certificate to be issued, you must have a test score of 80% or higher.

 

IWCMAA Certified Wing Chun Instructor Program
Important information regarding all levels of training through the IWCMAA:


1. All levels require personal training between the candidate and IWCMAA Certified Instructors. This training includes private lessons at either the Main School with Master Chan and/or his Senior Instructors, or with Certified Instructors at an Affiliate School. In the case of Senior Instructors, training must take place at the IWCMAA Headquarters in Wyoming, MI.

2. This private training includes, but is not limited to, forms, theories, chi sau applications, combat applications, footwork, drills, and exercises appropriate for the testing level. Individuals will also learn how to instruct, formulate lesson plans, explain theory and technique, and get practical experience running classes. Individuals are judged on their technical skill and knowledge, along with their ability to explain, teach, and their personal character.

3. Each level requires a minimum of 12 hours of personal instruction, which is at the rate of $45/hour. (12 hours x $45 = $540). This fee must be paid at the time of scheduling your private lessons, and is paid to the school at which you are taking the private instruction. Additional training hours are available upon request.

4. The IWCMAA does not provide living accommodations. You will be responsible for your own transportation and hotel accommodations during the time of your training. Please reserve your personal training at least two weeks prior to your arrival for personal training at either the main school or the affiliate school.

Members who wish to enroll in Certified Wing Chun Instructor Training Program should fill out a registration form and send it in to the IWCMAA Headquarters along with a $75 registration fee.

Instructor - Level I

1. Minimum Requirements: You must hold a minimum rank of Blue Sash (Mok Jong Level II) with the IWCMAA and have at least 3 years of Martial Art experience.

2. Study and learn the First Level Instructor Training Course from the International Wing Chun Martial Art Association, composed of the Sil Lim Tau Lesson Plans DVD, Chum Kau Lesson Plans DVD and the First Level Instructor Manual.

3. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the First Level Instructor Lesson Plans along with a $95 testing fee.

4. Master Chan will review the video and provide his recommendations. Results will be sent to you within two weeks. You must make the corrections recommended by Master Chan before scheduling the Instructor Level I qualification test.

5. Before taking the test, a minimum of twelve hours of personal training is required to be taken at the main school or any affiliate school*. The Level I Instructor qualification test will be given at the end of the day after training.

6. Master Chan will review your test results. For a Level I Instructor Certificate to be issued, you must pass the qualification test with a minimum score of 80%.

7. Level I Instructors can certify students in both the Sil Lim Tau and Chum Kiu Levels.

Instructor - Level II

1. Minimum Requirements: You must hold a minimum rank of Brown Sash (Lok Dim Boon Gwan Level) with the IWCMAA and be certified as a Level I Instructor through the IWCMAA.

2. Study and learn the Second Level Instructor Training Course from the International Wing Chun Martial Art Association, composed of the Mok Jong Lesson Plans DVD and the Second Level Instructor Manual.

3. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Second Level Instructor Lesson Plans along with a $95 testing fee.

4. Master Chan will review the video and provide his recommendations. Results will be sent to you within two weeks. You must make the corrections recommended by Master Chan before scheduling the Instructor Level II qualification test.

5. Before taking the test, a minimum of twelve hours of personal training is required to be taken at the main school or any affiliate school*. The Level II Instructor qualification test will be given at the end of the day after training.

6. Master Chan will review your test results. For a Level II Instructor Certificate to be issued, you must pass the qualification test with a minimum score of 80%.

7. Level II Instructors can certify students up to the Blue Sash level (Mok Jong Level II)

 

Instructor - Level III

1. Minimum Requirements: You must hold a minimum rank of Black Sash (Biu Gee Level) with the IWCMAA and and be certified as a Level II Instructor through the IWCMAA.

2. Study and learn the Third Level Instructor Training Course from the International Wing Chun Martial Art Association, composed of the Lok Dim Boon Gwan Lesson Plans DVD and the Third Level Instructor Manual.

3. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the Third Level Instructor Lesson Plans along with a $95 testing fee.

4. Master Chan will review the video and provide his recommendations. Results will be sent to you within two weeks. You must make the corrections recommended by Master Chan before scheduling the Instructor Level III qualification test.

5. Before taking the test, a minimum of twelve hours of personal training is required to be taken at the main school or any affiliate school*. The Level III Instructor qualification test will be given at the end of the day after training.

6. Master Chan will review your test results. For a Level III Instructor Certificate to be issued, you must pass the qualification test with a minimum score of 80%.

7. Level III Instructors can certify students up to the Brown Sash (Lok Dim Boon Gwan) Level.

 

Senior Instructor - Level I

1. Minimum Requirements: You must hold a minimum rank of Red Sash (Bak Jom Dao Level) with the IWCMAA and and be certified as a Level III Instructor through the IWCMAA.

2. Study and learn the First Level Senior Instructor Training Course from the International Wing Chun Martial Art Association, composed of the Biu Gee Lesson Plans DVD and the First Level Senior Instructor Manual.

3. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the First Level Senior Instructor Lesson Plans along with a $95 testing fee.

4. Master Chan will review the video and provide his recommendations. Results will be sent to you within two weeks. You must make the corrections recommended by Master Chan before scheduling the Senior Instructor Level I qualification test.

5. Before taking the test, a minimum of twelve hours of personal training is required to be taken at the IWCMAA Main School in Wyoming, MI. The Level I Senior Instructor qualification test will be given at the end of the day after training.

6. Master Chan will review your test results. For a Level I Senior Instructor Certificate to be issued, you must pass the qualification test with a minimum score of 80%.

7. Level I Senior Instructors can certify students up to the Black Sash (Biu Gee) Level.

 

Senior Instructor - Level II

1. Minimum Requirements: You must be certified as a Level I Senior Instructor through the IWCMAA.

2. Study and learn the Second Level Senior Instructor Training Course from the International Wing Chun Martial Art Association, composed of the Bak Jom Dao Lesson Plans DVD and the Second Level Senior Instructor Manual.

3. Mail to Master Chan a VHS or DVD video copy of you performing the First Level Senior Instructor Lesson Plans along with a $195 testing fee.

4. Master Chan will review the video and provide his recommendations. Results will be sent to you within two weeks. You must make the corrections recommended by Master Chan before scheduling the Senior Instructor Level II qualification test.

5. Before taking the test, a minimum of twelve hours of personal training is required to be taken at the IWCMAA Main School in Wyoming, MI. The Level II Senior Instructor qualification test will be given at the end of the day after training.

6. The final test includes: 1) review of the entire Wing Chun system; 2) assist with testing lower Instructor Level candidates; 3) teach two of Master Chan’s classes; and 4) assist with 1 teaching seminar. Master Chan will review your test results. For a Level II Senior Instructor Certificate to be issued, you must pass the qualification test with a minimum score of 80%.

7. Level II Senior Instructors can certify students up to the Red Sash (Bak Jom Dao) Level.

 

Master Instructor

1. Minimum Requirements: You must be certified as a Level II Senior Instructor through the IWCMAA and have 10+ years of Wing Chun teaching experience.

2. Certification will be issued by Master Chan. No testing or additional training is required at this point. You may continue to contact Master Chan from time to time for advice.
